Try it at home!
At home …

Ask your child to draw a map of your house from memory, and then use the
map to find your way around.

Play hide-and-seek.

Talk about different “safe” areas if your child gets separated from you
in public.

Talk about different people who can help you if a child gets lost (i.e.,
police officer, firefighter).
Around town …

Ask your child to draw a map of your neighborhood from memory and then use the map to find your way around.
At the library …
While reading, ask your child if
he or she can guess what will happen on the next page. If you are
reading a picture book, ask your child to explain what the pictures
mean. After the reading the book, have your child retell the story in
his or her own words.
