Five Senses (Episode 12)
Try it at home!
At home …
-
Number five paper bags, and place different objects with a variety
of textures in each bag (i.e., cotton ball, sandpaper, feather).
Have your child reach into the bag, and try to guess what each
object is.
-
Practice blinking and winking. Close both eyes to
demonstrate winking. See if your child can close one eye
and wink.
-
Ask your child to point to different parts of his or her
body (eyes, ears, nose, mouth, etc.) and talk about what
each of those parts does.
-
Taste a lemon. Taste a piece of chocolate. How do they
differ? How are they the same?
-
Have your child yell loudly and whisper quietly. How
loud can he or she yell? How quietly can he or she
whisper?
In the kitchen …
Banana smoothies are a delicious
nutritious treat. Try different fruits and juices for different flavors
and see how your taste buds react!
-
What you’ll need:
1 small frozen banana, cut in chunks
1/2 c. plain low-fat yogurt
1/4 c. orange juice
Put all
ingredients in blender and mix until smooth. Add more juice to make the
smoothie thinner. Have your child tear the banana with his or her hands,
and discuss how it feels (cold, squishy, etc.).
Around town …
-
Visit a bakery and list all of the delicious smells
around you.
-
Go to a petting zoo, and pet each animal. How do they
differ? How are they the same?
At the library …
While reading, ask your child if he
or she can guess what will happen on the next page. If you are reading a
picture book, ask your child to explain what the pictures mean. After
the reading the book, have your child retell the story in his or her own
words.
