Places to Visit
(Episode 10)
Try it at home!
At home …
-
Have your child write or tell you about a trip you have taken
together. It could be as simple as a trip to the grocery store or as
in-depth as a family vacation.
-
Look at a map with your child, and have him or her point
to places where other family members live.
In the kitchen …
As you’re out exploring new and wonderful places to visit, you’ll work
up a hearty appetite. Try this tasty trail mix with your young
explorers.
-
What you’ll need:
Equal amounts of oats, corn, rice or wheat cereal; chocolate
chips, raisins, dried fruit bits; coconut; peanuts or other nuts
Mix it all together and enjoy!
Around town …
-
Most towns have free or inexpensive museums and parks. Visit
regularly and talk to your child about the things you see during
your visit.
-
Visit the library as often as possible to help your child develop a
love of reading.
-
When visiting a state park, make arrangements to meet with the park
ranger. Many parks have “junior ranger” programs for children to
join.
At the library …
While reading, ask your child if he or she can guess
what will happen on the next page. If you are reading a picture book,
ask your child to explain what the pictures mean. After the reading the
book, have your child retell the story in his or her own words.
